SPOKANE, Wash.— The Whitworth Pirates women's soccer team beat the visiting George Fox Bruins 2-1 in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday afternoon.
Whitworth's (4-6-4, 4-4-3 NWC) defense was steady throughout the match, limiting George Fox's (7-2-4, 5-2-4 NWC) opportunities to score.
Pirate defender Emma Foulk dribbled past Bruin defenders and scored in the 16th minute to give Whitworth the 1-0 advantage at half.
Becca Kozak connected with Hannah Beardemphl, who found the equalizer for the Bruins in the 50th minute.
Whitworth's Kylee Russell headed in the match-winning goal in the 64th minute off a pass from Baylee Trejo.
The Bruins outshot the Pirates 10-8 in total shots. The Pirates outshot the Bruins 5-2 on shots on target.
Pirate goalkeeper Kate Nelson had one save in 90 minutes played. Bruin goalkeepers played forty-five minutes apiece with Zirce Valeriano being credited with two saves and Bella Salazar with one.
Whitworth will play next at home on Sunday against Pacific (Ore.) at 12:00 PM.
