SPOKANE, Wash.— The visiting Pacific Lutheran University Lutes used a pair of late goals to earn a 2-0 Northwest Conference women's soccer win at Whitworth on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates (1-6-2, 1-4-1 NWC) and Lutes (8-1-1, 5-1-0) battled to a scoreless first half, but the Lutes were able to capitalize on Pirate mistakes late in the game to win on the road.
A failed clearing by the Pirates led to the Lutes' Julia Causbie stealing the ball and scoring in the 82nd minute.
Minutes later Causbie took advantage of a Pirate failed drop pass to score in the 87th minute to put the Lutes up 2-0.
The Lutes outshot the Pirates 19-8 on total shots taken and 8-1 in shots on-target.
Goalkeeper Kate Nelson had four saves in 90 minutes for the Pirates. Shaylin Cesar had one for the Lutes.
Whitworth will play next on Wednesday at 4:00PM against Whitman on the Whitworth Soccer Field.
