Whitworth women draw 1-1 at L&C

PORTLAND, Ore.— The visiting Whitworth Pirates and Lewis & Clark Pioneers battled to a 1-1 draw in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates were up 1-0 over the Pioneers late, but a goal by Celeste Schreifels in the final minutes forced the draw.

Whitworth (3-6-4, 3-4-3 NWC) and the Pioneers (4-5-4, 4-3-3 NWC) were both scoreless in the first half but each found opportunities to score in the final forty-five.

Kalena Pfaeltzer's free kick found teammate Camryn Gardner in the 63rd minute to give the Pirates the lead.

The Pioneers battled and earned their own well-positioned free kick which led to Schreifels 88th minute equalizer. Sara Klott was credited with the assist.

Lewis & Clark outshot the Pirates 15-9 in total shots taken and 8-4 on shots on goal.

Pirate goalkeeper Kate Nelson was credited with six saves in 90 minutes played. Sophia Young had one save in 63 minutes and Delaney Jones had two in 27 minutes for the Pioneers.
