PLU Shuts Out Men's Soccer 5-0

PARKLAND, Wash. – League-leading Pacific Lutheran scored four second half goals to pull away for a 5-0 win over visiting Whitworth in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

The Lutes (7-2 overall, 4-0 NWC) are the only team unbeaten in NWC play following the second weekend of conference action. 

Craig Johnson and Chris Lozano each had a goal and an assist for PLU.  Keeton Heggerness, Robby Guyer and Christian Pineda also scored for the hosts.

The first half was tightly contested.  The Lutes led only 1-0 on a goal by Heggerness, assisted by Lozano, in the 31st minute.  Shots were equal (6-6), as were corner kicks (1-1). 

PLU turned things up in the second half, outshooting the Pirates 9-4.  They had four corners to none for the Pirates.  Guyer and Lozano scored in the first eight minutes to help put the game out of reach.

Andrew Wolotira started in goal for the Bucs (3-4-1, 2-2) and allowed four goals in 75 minutes.  He had four saves.  Josh Hill played the final 15 minutes and gave up one goal.  He had no saves.

Nicholas Gaston posted had four saves to post the shutout for PLU.

Whitworth returns home to host Pacific (Ore.) and George Fox next weekend.
