SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with visiting Puget Sound in Sunday's Northwest Conference contest in the Pine Bowl.

Whitworth (2-3-1, 2-3-1 NWC) dominated the stat sheet offensively, finishing with the lead in shots (25-9), shots on goal (9-2) and corner kicks (13-2). The Pirates held the Loggers to just four shots after halftime, none on goal, but Puget Sound (2-3-1, 2-3-1) was able to hold on for the tie after scoring a goal early in the first half.

Cale Spence scored for the second day in a row to give the Loggers the lead in the 14th minute. Sean Hamel sent in a cross from the left side for the assist.

Johnathan Guglielmetti tied the match in the 80th minute, sending a deep shot from the left side into the upper right corner of the net. Dominic Gusman and Danny Alvarez each had a shot on goal during the final ten minutes of regulation but neither got through.

Chris Barry nearly had the match-winner less than two minutes into the first overtime, but the goal did not count as the Pirates were called offsides.

Whitworth created one last chance in the closing seconds as Jose Bautista dribbled down the left side of the field, but his shot drifted right as time expired.

Bo Broyles made one save on the match for the Pirates. Blake Robertson finished with eight saves for the Loggers.

Whitworth will travel to Pacific Lutheran next weekend to begin the first of three weekends on the road.
