Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pirates and Blues Play to 2-2 Draw

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth led twice, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw with visiting Whitman in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.

It was the season finale for the host Pirates (8-8-2 overall, 7-6-1 NWC) and visiting Blues (13-4-1, 9-4-1).

Andyn Maldonado gave Whitworth a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute with his third goal of the season, heading in a pass from Jaime Rodriguez.

The lead held until the 71st minute when Oscar Harding converted a penalty kick for his seventh goal of the year.

Jose Bautista scored nine minutes later on another assist from Rodriguez.  It was his third of the season and appeared to give Whitworth the win.

Edwin Romaro tied it once again for the Blues in the 86th minute on an assist from Harding.  It was Romero's fifth of the season.

Whitworth had more, and better, chances in the 20 minutes of overtime, outshooting Whitman 4-1 over that stretch.  But the Pirates could not net the golden goal.

Bo Broyles made two saves for Whitworth.  Colby Ramsey played the first half for Whitman and made one stop.  Lucas Haigh played the rest of the game for the Blues.

Whitman finished with a 13-11 edge in total shots, 4-3 in shots on-goal.  Whitworth had the advantage in corner kick opportunities (5-3).
