SPOKANE, Wash.—Southern Oregon University used a 10-0 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter for a 63-54 win hosting Whitworth on Friday night in the first round of the Quality Inn Whitworth Classic.

The Raiders (2-0) scored the first four points of the game, including a Dominique Harding jumper.  The Pirates tied the game at six after a Megan Dorney fastbreak layup.

Whitworth went into the second quarter leading 14-13, but a three-pointer by Kalei Iwami closed the gap. Harding hit a three-pointer with one second left in the half to put Southern Oregon up 30-28.

The Pirates (0-1) were 10-23 with a 43.5% field goal percentage in the first half despite being 0-3 from behind the arc. The Raiders went 12-32 and shot 37.5%, and 3-16 for 18.8% from three.

Only 19 total points were scored in the third quarter, and neither team shot above 30% in the period. Whitworth did make 2-5 three-point shots but failed to regain the lead in the quarter.

Leading 38-37 near the end of the third, Southern Oregon took a commanding lead in the fourth quarter after scoring the final basket of the third and the first eight points of the fourth for a 48-37 advantage.  Shooting 63.6% from the field and 75% from beyond the arc in the period, SOU led by as many as 13 points. The Pirates rallied on a five-point scoring run to close the gap to 53-45, but couldn't stop the Raider offense. Whitworth shot 53.8% from the field and 33.3% from three in the final quarter
