SPOKANE, Wash. – Visiting Puget Sound scored a goal early in each half to upend Whitworth 2-0 in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.
The 19th-ranked Loggers improved to 13-0-1 overall and 9-0-1 in the NWC. The Pirates dropped to 7-5-2, 4-4-2. The only blemish on the Puget Sound record is a 0-0 tie against Whitworth last month in Tacoma.
Kylee Roath scored from distance in the tenth minute to get the Loggers on the board with her sixth goal of the season.
Emily O'Neil scored in the 63rd minute to double the lead, flicking on a pass from Kiana Serrao for her first goal of the year.
Puget Sound outshot Whitworth 23-7, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Kate Nelson made five saves in goal for the Pirates while Chaylea Tome made three stops to post the shutout for the Loggers.
Whitworth returns to action on Wednesday with a match at Whitman.
