Coprivnicar Sets Record in Pirates' Win

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gabriella Coprivnicar set a record for fastest goal in Whitworth soccer history and the Pirates dominated on the way to a 2-0 win over visiting Linfield in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates improved to 7-3-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the NWC at the halfway point of the conference schedule.  The Wildcats dropped to 2-8-2, 1-6-1.

Linfield kicked off to open the match, but Coprivicar stole the ball, drove up field and scored from the top of the box into the corner of the net only 11 seconds into the contest.

Coprivnicar leads the Bucs in goals (5) and points (13) this season.

The score remained the same until the 89th minute when Maggie Ames put back a ball the bounced off the cross bar.

In between Whitworth controlled the play at both ends, outshooting Linfield 18-4.  The Bucs had a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

Kate Nelson had one save to post her second shutout of the weekend.

Whitworth will open the second round of Northwest Conference play at home next weekend against league-leading Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound.
