SPOKANE, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran scored three first half goals to run away with a 5-0 victory over the Whitworth Pirates in Saturday afternoon's Northwest Conference men's soccer match in Spokane.
The Pirates (3-5-1, 1-2 NWC) struggled to stay on their feet in the loss. Jackson Moore scored twice and recorded an assist for the Lutes (6-3, 3-0) to remain undefeated in conference play.
Whitworth started out the match strong, not allowing Pacific Lutheran a shot until the 18th minute. That shot turned out to be the first goal of the match for the Lutes. Pirates goalkeeper Bo Broyles slipped trying to prevent a shot and Moore took advantage of it for his first goal of the match.
The Lutes added on four minutes later as Zak Gregg fired in a shot from the right side of the box. Pacific Lutheran extended its lead to 3-0 as Broyles attempt to clear the ball deflected off Moore and into the goal.
Pacific Lutheran's next two goals came in the second half. Moore sent a cross to Rainier Schlekewey who took a shot from the top of the box for the 4-0 lead in the 50th minute. Ola Kvindesland scored the final goal putting in a corner kick pass by Jaisen Zurfluh.
The Lutes finished with the lead in shots (15-11), shots on goal (8-4) and corner kicks (7-5). Pacific Lutheran's goalkeeper Cole Weaver tallied four saves and earned his fourth shutout. Broyles had three saves.
Up next, the Pirates take on 10th-ranked Puget Sound tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
