SPOKANE, Wash. – Jonah Snyder scored his seventh goal of the season late in the match to lift Whitworth past visiting Linfield in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Sunday.
Whitworth (4-2 overall, 2-0 NWC) outshot Linfield (0-6-1 overall, 0-2 NWC) 28-8 in total shots. The Pirates managed to get ten shots on goal while holding the Wildcats to two. Whitworth had multiple chances throughout the game to score, although Linfield goalkeeper Jorge Rodriguez Toro was able to handle all but one.
In the 87th minute, Rylan Berriman hard-crossed a ball from the left endline to Jonah Snyder who was waiting to finish.
In a physical match, four players were cautioned with yellow cards. Linfield's Andrew Fischer, Brian DeGrandmont, and Isaac Archer received their cards in the fifth, 68
th, and 81
st minute, respectively.
Aaron Yanagi was given his card just seconds before DeGrandmont after the two were involved in an altercation.
Rodriguez-Toro had nine saves for the Wildcats and Pirate goalkeeper Timmy Costa recorded two saves.
