Pirates Tame Tigers in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Behind Madison Moffat's 17-point performance (6-9 FG), the Whitworth women's basketball team handed Colorado College a 13-point loss (65-52) in Whitman's Kim Evanger Raney Classic on Friday night.

The Pirates snap a three game losing streak to improve to 2-5 (0-2 NWC). The Tigers drop to 1-6 on the season.
 
Colorado College jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game, finishing the first quarter up 12-10. The Tigers struck first in the second quarter, going up 14-10 before Whitworth's Erika Kuehn made a three-pointer to spark an 11-point Pirate' run to go up 21-14. Whitworth would hold on to that lead for the rest of the game. 

After taking a 26-20 lead into the half, the Pirates added a 15-point third quarter on six points from Kuehn to stretch their lead to 11 (41-30) heading in to the final period. Moffat would finish out her season-high 17-point performance with a six-point fourth quarter. 

Three other Pirates scored in double figures, Erika Kuehn contributed 13 points and Grace Douglas and Callie Harwood added 10 apiece. Whitworth finished shooting 39.7% (23-58) from the floor and 23.1% (3-13) from behind the arc in addition to knocking down 76.2% of their free throw attempts (16-21). Kuehn led the Pirates with three assists. 

Casey Torbet led Colorado College with 17 points on 7-12 shooting and six rebounds. Christina Bowman added 13 for the Tigers. 

A 15-9 differential in offensive rebounds gave Whitworth a 36-31 edge in total boards for the game. Callie Harwood, Grace Douglas, and Faith Cebula collected five rebounds apiece to lead the Pirates in that category. 

Coming Up: The Pirates are back in action Saturday, Dec. 10, taking on Louisanna College at 4:00 pm in their last game at the Kim Evanger Raney Classic hosted by Whitman.
