Box Score McMINNVILLE, Ore. – A 68th minute goal by Jonah Snyder gave Whitworth a 1-0 edge over Linfield in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Friday night under the lights at Linfield's Maxwell Field.
The Pirates take an eight point lead over second place Pacific (Ore.) with 29 points and a 9-1-2 NWC record (11-3-2 overall). Linfield (1-10-1 NWC, 1-14-2) remains in last place with four points, just one point behind George Fox.
In a defensive standoff, the Pirates were able to get four shots on goal while holding the Cats to just one. Whitworth also had five more total shots (15). Moi Diaz led the Pirates with four shots; Alfredo Ornelas and Jonah Snyder each added three.
There were zero shots on goal in the first half; the first shot on target didn't come until the 65
th minute when Wildcat goalkeeper Jorge Rodriguez got his hands on a shot by
Tyler Cardinale. A foul on Linfield set Snyder up for a set piece just outside the 18-yard box. Snyder curled the ball to the top left corner for the lone goal of the game and his 14
th goal of the season.
Timmy Costa (9-2-2) posted his third shutout of the season, cleaning up the only Linfield shot on goal. Rodriguez gave up one goal and recorded three saves.
