SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth survived extra points in the second and third sets to sweep visiting George Fox and remain unbeaten in Northwest Conference volleyball action so far this season.

The Pirates defeated the Bruins 25-18, 28-26 and 33-31 to improve to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the NWC.  GFU fell to 4-7, 1-3.

Nicole Leonard had 15 kills to lead three Pirates in double figures.  She has surpassed 1,000 kills for her career.

Cassandra Mendoza had 11 kills, as did Haley Vick.  Vick's total was a season-high.  Maddye Dinsmore had 48 assists to lead the Pirate women to a .256 hitting percentage.  Mallorie Schoesler had 17 digs and Elizabeth Ginley served three of the team's four aces.

Delaney Cruz had 14 kills to lead the Bruins, while Danny Dupray had 12.  Erin Sprowls' 10 kills gave GFU three players in double figures.  The Bruins hit .214 in the match.

Whitworth pulled away from a close first set with a 9-2 run midway through that gave the Bucs a 21-13 lead.  Brenna Bruil's kill ended the set in Whitworth's favor.

Both squads had set-point twice in the second stanza before Vick's kill gave Whitworth a 28-26 clincher.

The final set went even longer.  GFU held off six match-points before Shawna Korshavn's kill ended the longest set of the season for the Pirates.

Whitworth hits the road for matches at Pacific (Ore.) and Linfield next weekend.
