Forest Grove, Ore. - Whitworth scored in the opening 20 minutes of the match before bolstering its lead with two second-half goals during a 3-0 victory over Pacific (Ore.) under the lights at Hanson Stadium on Friday evening. 

No. 5 Whitworth (9-0, 5-0 Northwest Conference) earned its fifth shutout in a row and seventh shutout overall with the win over Pacific (3-7, 1-4).

Whitworth, off to its best winning streak start to a season in program history, scored a goal in the opening 20 minutes of play for the fourth match in a row. Karl Muelheims netted his conference-leading eighth goal of the season in the 18th minute from near the top of the 18-yard box via a through-ball pass up the field from Rylan Berriman.

Berriman added a second assist in the 64th minute when Jonah Snyder scored his fourth goal of the season. The Pacific goalkeeper attempted to corral the ball near the top of the box, but Whitworth gained possession of the loose ball and Snyder finished his shot from inside the box with the goalkeeper out of position.

Freshman Sam McKay scored his first collegiate goal in the 79th minute, finishing a cross from close range on a pass sent in from the right side of the field by Austin Cassity.

Whitworth totaled four shots in each half and put five shots on goal in the contest. The Pirates held Pacific without a shot attempt during the first half. The Boxers were able to generate five shots after halftime and put three of those shots on goal.

Timmy Costa made three saves while Pacific netminder Leyton Thommasen collected two saves.

The Pirates travel to face George Fox at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday before returning home to host Whitman next weekend.
