Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – Puget Sound ended a nine-match losing streak with a 3-1 win over visiting Whitworth in a Northwest Conference volleyball match on Saturday night at Memorial Field House.
The final scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23. UPS improved to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in the NWC. The Pirates, who nearly upset 15th-ranked Pacific Lutheran on Friday night before losing in five sets, fell to 7-4, 0-2.
Brenna Bruil had 17 kills and hit .341 for Whitworth. Cassandra Mendoza added 15 kills, while Nicole Leonard finished with 10 kills. Maddye Dinsmore dished 42 assists and Elizabeth Ginley finished with 25 digs. But the Pirates struggled at the net defensively, finishing the match with only two team blocks.
Meanwhile the Loggers had 8.5 team blocks and posted a .224 team hitting percentage. Katie Rice led UPS with 17 kills.
Whitworth will host Whitman on Wednesday night in its Northwest Conference home-opener.
