Box Score PARKLAND, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran scored with less than seven minutes left in regulation to prevent visiting Whitworth from giving the sixth-ranked Lutes their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon as the teams played to a 1-1 tie.
Whitworth is now 5-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Northwest Conference while PLU is 8-0-3, 3-0-2.
Karl Muelheims scored his second goal of the season in the 40th minute to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Zach Waldher had the assist. Both were in the match as substitutes for Whitworth.
The Pirates held that lead for most of the second half until Derek Johnson tied the game with a goal from 15 yards out in the 84th minute. Rigoberto Loreto had the assist for PLU.
Timmy Costa had three saves in his first full match in goal for Whitworth. Joe Reyburn made five saves for the Lutes.
Whitworth outshot PLU 21-15, including a 6-4 edge in shots on-goal.
The Pirates will take on first-place Puget Sound on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm.
