Box Score SALEM, Ore. -- Whitworth University blistered the volleyball court with a team hitting percentage of .392 in a 25-11, 25-19, 25-12 win at Willamette in a Northwest Conference volleyball match on Saturday night at Cone Field House.
Kaimi Rocha and Amanda Grumbach led the way for the visiting Pirates, who won their seventh straight match to improve to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in the NWC. Rocha had 13 kills and no errors in 17 attempts for a .765 hitting percentage. Grumbach was even hotter, nailing 10 kills in 12 attempts without an error for a .833 percentage.
Grumbach had five kills in five attempts in the first set as the Pirates rolled to a 25-11 win. Whitworth hit .545 as a team in the set with 15 kills in 22 attempts with only three errors.
Rocha took over in the second set, killing seven balls in nine attacks. Jalana White added four kills for the Bucs to help Whitworth take the set 25-19.
Whitworth took advantage of poor Willamette hitting in the final set. The Bearcats hit -0.77 with seven team kills and nine errors in 26 attacks. Grumbach and Rocha each had three kills in the set for the Pirates.
White finished with seven kills for Whitworth. Bree Riddle had four kills, 28 assists and three aces. Whitney Santos led her team with 11 digs. Ka'ipo Rocha had three blocks.
Shannon Waltz led Willamette with four kills. The Bearcats (5-8, 2-2) finished with a team hitting percentage of .000.
The Pirates will return home to host Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran next weekend in a pair of key Northwest Conference match-ups. UPS and PLU are tied for second place, one game behind Whitworth in the NWC standings.
