Box Score NEWBEWRG, Ore. –The Whitworth men's soccer team (4-1-1, 2-0-0) posted a shutout in intimidating fashion on Sunday afternoon beating the host Bruins (2-4, 0-2) 4-0.
All Pirates who scored in Sunday's game had not scored prior to the match. In the first half Cameron Bushey (Sr., MF, Spokane, Wash.) was responsible for the assists on both goals. In the 21th minute he served up a deep cross to JT Meyer (Sr., MF, Olympia, Wash) who found the net.
Only a few minutes after the initial goal Bushey crossed another ball and found Andrew French (So., MF, Lacey, Wash.) who was able to put the Bucs up 2-0 with his goal.
In the second half the story was Kekoa Mountcastle (Jr., F, Waiehu, Hawaii). Mountcastle scored from the left corner in the 54th minute of the game and again in the 73rd minute from 15 yards out.
George Fox attempted more shots during the match than the Pirates but they were not able to put any in the back of the net. The Bruins posted 13 shots on the Pirates who shot 12 and was able to convert one third of those shots into goals.
The match proved to be a physical one by both squads. Whitworth was given 11 fouls to counter George Fox's 12
The Pirates will have the home-field advantage this coming weekend when they play host to Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran. The matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
