Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Claremont-Mudd-Scripps scored with ten seconds left to hand the Whitworth Pirate men their first soccer loss of the season on Sunday afternoon at Pacific University.
The Stags (2-1) set the tone early with a goal in the fourth minute.
The Pirates (2-1-1) were held scoreless until the 80th minute when Dion Coxe (Sr., D, Eugene, Ore.) made his second shot on goal to bring the match to a draw. The Pirates' hopes were dashed by a last second goal by Jake Bishop in the 90th minute.
Coxe's goal was his second of the year for the Bucs. Cameron Bushey (Sr, MF, Spokane, Wash.) offered the assist on the play with a free kick. The 6'3'' Coxe was then able to head the ball into the net off of Bushey's pass.
The Pirates' goalkeeper Brian Sherpe (Sr., Centennial, Colo.) made eight saves on the match but the Stags bombarded the goal with twenty shots versus Whitworth's showing of eleven.
The Pirates will come home and prepare for a return trip to Forest Grove, Ore. This time however, they will meet the host school Pacific to open conference play next Saturday afternoon. Whitworth will then continue their trip in Newberg, Oregon where they will match up with the George Fox Bruins on Sunday.
