Box Score SALEM, Ore. – On Sunday afternoon the Whitworth men's soccer team (6-2-1, 4-1-0) blanked Willamette (3-4-1, 2-3-0) ) 4-0 in Salem, Oregon.
The Bucs found the goal early and often versus WU. Cameron Bushey (Sr., MF, Spokane, Wash.) scored in the seventh minute for his second goal this year off of a free kick.
The other three pirates to score all scored for the first time in 2011. Taylor Willi (Sr., D, Grants Pass, Ore.) scored from the right side of the field into the lower left corner of the net off of an assist from Dion Coxe (Sr., D, Eugene, Ore.) in the 26th minute.
The Pirates continued to hold off scoring opportunites from the Bearcats and put two more shots in the goal in the second half. Michael VanDenBerg (So., F, Aurora, Colo.) scored in the 72nd minute and Andrew Glass (Sr., MF, Colorado Springs, Colo.) capitalized on a penalty kick late in the game.
Both squads fired off five shots. It was the Pirates who took advantage however and converted three of those into points. The match on Saturday was Brian Sherpe's (Sr., GK, Centennial, Colo.) sixth shutout of 2011.
On Sunday afternoon the Pirates will meet Linfield College in a contest set for 2:30 PM in McMinnville, Oregon.
