Matt Leonard re-joins the Whitworth men's soccer coaching staff in November of 2025 as the lead assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Leonard holds a USSF National "B" Coaching License and brings extensive experience from club, high school, and collegiate levels. Leonard began his soccer coaching career at Shadle Park High School where he served as the boys JV head coach from 1997-1999 and the boys and girls varsity head coach from 2000-2006. He also served at the club level, coaching Spokane Shadow Youth Soccer Club teams from 2003-2014 and serving with NBC Soccer Camps from 2000-2011. In 2014, Leonard became the boys and girls varsity head coach at North Central High School, where he coached two Greater Spokane League championship teams. Throughout his high school coaching career, he has earned a Shadle Park "Above and Beyond" Award and six GSL Coach of the Year awards.
Leonard is a Whitworth graduate and was a member of the Pirate men's soccer team from 1995-1998. He was a two-time All-Northwest Conference player and earned second team All-Region honors in 1996. Leonard served as an assistant coach for the Pirates from 2008-2011 before returning to the staff in 2025.
