Whitworth University

Jake Hanson enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Whitworth men’s basketball program in 2026-27. Hanson comes to Whitworth after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado.  The Grizzlies posted an 18-11 record in 2025-26, their most victories in one season in over a decade.

Prior to Adams State, Hanson spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. During his time with the Statesmen, William Penn posted back-to-back 30-win seasons and made consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Tournament. Three William Penn student-athletes earned All-American honors during that span.

Hanson began his collegiate coaching career at Central Washington University, where he served as a student assistant with the men’s basketball program from 2018-21.

A native of Fox Island, Washington, Hanson earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Central Washington in 2021 and his master’s degree in Sports Management from William Penn in 2023.
