Brandon Howell

Brandon enters his seventh year on the Whitworth track and field and cross country coaching staffs, and third as the Director of Recruiting/Assistant Coach. Brandon coaches the sprints, horizontal jumps, relays, and develops the lifting programs for the sprints, jumps, hurdles, multi, and distance event groups.

Brandon graduated from Whitworth University in 2008 with a B.A. in Health, Fitness, and Physical Education. He received his Master's in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia Irvine in 2016. Brandon also has certifications in sport conditioning and nutrition.

As a coach at Whitworth, Brandon has helped coach 73 All-NWC athletes, 74 All-west region athletes, 15 NWC champions, 3 NWC relay champions, 5 All-Americans, a NWC freshman of the year, 2 NWC field athletes of the year, NWC Track athlete of the year, 2 West region field athletes of the year, West region indoor track athlete of the year, 7 indoor school records in the sprints, jumps, hurdles, multi events, and 5 outdoor school records. Brandon helped coach Amelia Hewson to the NWC record and meet record in the 100m hurdles and Solo Hines to the NWC meet record in the 100m dash (and 2nd all-time). Under Brandon’s coaching the women’s 4x1 relay won back to back Conference titles in 2023 and 2024. Brandon also helped Solo Hines run the 5th fastest 60m in NCAA D3 history in 2023 and a Second Team All-American honor in 2024.

In 2023, Brandon was honored as the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III West Region Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year.

Before coming back to Whitworth, Brandon coached high school track and field for 10 years including eight as head coach in Victor, Montana for both the track and field and football teams. While coaching high school he coached 123 All-Conference athletes, 40 All-State athletes, 60 league champions, and five State Champions. His athletes also broke 10 school records in track and field. Brandon’s track teams won four league championships and placed third at the State meet twice.

As an athlete Brandon was a three-year team captain for Whitworth Track and Field helping lead the TEAM to a Conference Championship and third place team finish at Nationals in 2008. He competed at four NCAA Division III meets in the 800 and broke the school record at Whitworth in the 800. Brandon was also a 2-time Northwest Conference Champion and an Academic All-American.
