CLAREMONT, Calif. – Becky George qualified to the NCAA Division III national championships and Joel Mott earned All-Region recognition on Saturday at the Division III west region meet at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
The Whitworth men finished 9th out of 15 schools, while the Pirate women were 12th out of 18.
Mott crossed the line in 26th place with a time of 26:22.7 on the eight kilometer course. The top 35 finishers are considered All-West Region. Ethan Widlansky of Pomona-Pitzer won the meet with a time of 25:00.7.
The final men's team scores were: Pomona-Pitzer 33, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 43, UC Santa Cruz 102, Occidental 132, Colorado College 172, Redlands 175, George Fox 208, Caltech 209, Whitworth 289, Lewis & Clark 292, Chapman 292, Whitman 297, Pacific Lutheran 322, Cal Lutheran 368, Pacific (Ore.) 431.
The top two teams and the top seven individual finishers not on those teams qualify for next week's NCAA Division III Championships in Louisville, Ky.
George will be one of those individuals on the women's side after her sixth place finish. She finished the six kilometer course in 22:24.4. Whitman's Whitney Rich won the race with a time of 21:12.0 and also qualified as an individual.
