Cross Country Gets Off to Solid Start

CHENEY, Wash. – The Whitworth cross country teams got the 2019 season started with a solid showing at the Clash of the Inland Northwest on Saturday at Eastern Washington University. 

Krystal Roberts led Whitworth's women by finishing 40th in the four kilometer race.  She crossed the line in 15:40.5.  Karina Olson was 50th in 16:11.5 and Ellie Shoop took 52nd in 16:22.0.

Gonzaga won the women's meet with 43 points, edging Montana (46).  Whitworth (194) finished in seventh place.

Joel Mott was the top men's finisher for the Pirates.  He ran the six kilometer course in 19:58.9.  Aidan Smith finished 63rd in his first career race with a time of 20:20.3.

Gonzaga also won the men's meet in dominating fashion with 19 points.  Whitworth finished eighth with 234.

The Pirates will be back in action on September 13th at the WSU Cougar Classic in Colfax, Washington.
