The Whitworth Pirates swept Pacific University on Saturday evening to conclude their weekend in Oregon (25-19, 25-14, 25-18).
Whitworth remains undefeated in Northwest Conference play at 4-0, putting them at 10-4 overall. The Boxers move to 2-2 in conference, and 8-5 overall.
The Bucs jumped on the Boxers early with a 4-1 run to start the game. Two consecutive kills from Jessica Schmautz stretched the Bucs' lead to six (20-14), and Madison Douglas had the last kill to clinch the first win of the match.
Whitworth started the second set with another steady lead. Assisted by Erin White, Emiko Kahler put the Pirates up 18-10. The Bucs took the set with a kill from Schmautz, who would finish the night with a .571 hitting percentage.
The Boxers started strong in the third set, reaching a 10-4 lead. A big block from Schmautz sparked a Bucs' rally, followed by a successful attack from Lauren Budde that put the Pirates up one (12-11). White's final kill gave a Bucs a 22-17 lead, which led to their sweep.
Budde finished with nine kills for the Pirates, and Kahler finished with eight. Addy Woolery added 15 digs next to White's 33 assists. Whitworth hit 0.369 overall.
Pacific's Jordan Zweifel and Karlee Duncan had 7 kills apiece, and Parker Ellie had 24 assists.
Up next, the Pirates return home to take on Puget Sound on Friday, September 28th.
