Women's Tennis Sweeps PLU

SPOKANE, Wash.– The Whitworth women's tennis team swept Pacific Lutheran University 9-0 on Friday in the last home match of the season, sending a pair of Pirate seniors out on a winning note. The Pirates improve to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in Northwest Conference play. The Lutes move to 2-14 (0-8).

Seniors Emma Jo Wiley and Marissa Kirk were recognized prior to the start of the match.  Both won twice on Friday.

Wiley and Erica Lee won at #1 doubles 8-1, the same score Avery Liening and Jill Hughes defeated Kylie Rademacher and Bayley Gochanour by in #2 doubles. Madelyn Parkey and Kirk finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory at #3.

Liening was the first singles match to finish with a 6-0, 6-1 score at #2. Lee defeated Bayley Gochanour 6-0, 6-2 at #1 singles, followed by Wiley's 6-2, 6-1 victory at the #3 spot. Kirk closed out her final home match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #5 singles.

The Pirates will head to Whitman tomorrow to face the Blues in their final conference matchup. If Whitworth can win that match, the Bucs will qualify for the NWC tournament.  If Whitworth falls, the season will be complete.
