PORTLAND, Ore. – Top-seeded Lewis & Clark handed 4th-seeded Whitworth a 5-0 defeat in the semifinals of the 2016 Northwest Conference women's tennis tournament on Saturday morning.
The Pirates' season ends with a record of 7-12. The 18th-ranked Pioneers improved to 17-3 and will play Whitman in the NWC tournament championship match on Sunday.
L&C grabbed a 3-0 lead through doubles. The closest of those three contests came at #1 doubles where the Pioneers' tandem of Christine Eliazo and Claudia Lew beat Whitworth's Bella Hoyos and Jennifer Adams 8-4. The 2nd and 3rd doubles matches both ended 8-1 in favor of L&C.
Eliazo defeated Adams 6-1, 6-2 to increase the host's lead to 4-0. Very soon after Wiktoria Plawska topped Emma Jo Wiley 6-2, 6-1 at #2 singles to clinch the team victory.
There were two other matches in play at that point and both went unfinished. Aurora Garrison was leading Hoyos 6-0, 4-3 at #1 singles. Lew was ahead of Anabelle Burns 6-1, 5-2 at #4 singles.
