ORLANDO, Fla. – Whitworth University fell to Birmingham-Southern College 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference women's tennis match at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
The Pirates fell to 3-8 this season while the Panthers improved to 8-2.
BSC swept all three doubles matches to gain an early 3-0 lead. But two of the three doubles contests were only decided by a single break point. Emma Jo Wiley and Anabelle Burns fell to Isabella Wisener and McKenzie Courtney 8-6 at #2 doubles. KC McConnell and Ashley Winslow were defeated by Mary Carroll and Mary Taylor 8-5 at #3 doubles.
McConnell won her singles match for Whitworth at #5, beating Carroll 6-4, 6-4. Paige Rohrbach also won for the Pirates, knocking off Virginia Hammond 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) at #6 singles.
One other singles match went past two sets as well. Bella Hoyos lost to Carlee Petro 10-7 in their tiebreak set at #1 singles. Meanwhile, Wisener edged Wiley 6-4, 7-6 (5) at #3 singles.
Whitworth will conclude its Spring Break trip to Florida on Friday morning with a match against Hope College.
