SAN DIEGO, Calif. – A 2-1 advantage in doubles proved to be the difference as visiting Whitworth defeated San Diego Christian 5-4 in a non-conference women's tennis match on Thursday afternoon.
The Pirates improved to 6-4 while the Hawks fell to 2-10.
Whitworth won at #2 and #3 doubles. Bella Hoyos and Saryn Mooney shut out Roxana Daneshjoo and Miriam Boeta 8-0 at #2, while KC McConnell and Caylee Lamm rolled to an 8-1 win over Brielle Tyson and Anastasia Hicker at #3.
The 2-1 lead allowed the Pirates to earn the team win with a 3-3 split in the six singles matches. Hoyos won 6-3, 6-3 at #3, while Annabelle Burns earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at #5. Morgan McDivitt claimed an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at #6 singles.
Whitworth will close out its spring break trip to Southern California with a match at Concordia University – Irvine on Friday.
