Pirate Women Earn First Win of 2015

SPOKANE, Wash. – Bella Hoyos and Morgan McDivitt were each part of two convincing victories, leading Whitworth to a 7-2 win over visiting Pacific in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates improved to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the NWC, giving new head coach Rachel Aldridge her first career victory.  The Boxers dropped to 1-1, 0-1.

Hoyos teamed with Morgan McDivitt teamed to defeat Sidney Smith and Mai Kobayashi 8-3 at #2 doubles.  Both went on to claim easy wins in singles as well.  Hoyos shut out Smith 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles and McDivitt rolled by Carlee Rhodaback 6-1, 6-0 at #5.

In addition to the win at # 2 doubles, Taylor Peña and Jennifer Adams defeated Kaitlyn Lomartire and Jelena Vidovic 8-3 at #1 doubles, while Saryn Mooney and Caylee Lamm ran by Rhodaback and Kanani Kea 8-1 at #3, giving the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

The wins by Hoyos and McDivitt clinched the team win and gave the Bucs a 5-1 lead.  Lamm added a singles win for Whitworth at #6 and Adams earned a win at #4.

Whitworth hosts George Fox on Sunday.
