Pirates Whip Loggers in Women's Tennis

TACOMA, Wash. – Alli Marshall and Erica Bosman teamed to win at #1 doubles and then each swept to victory in singles to lead visiting Whitworth to a 7-2 win at Puget Sound in the Pirates' Northwest Conference women's tennis opener on Friday night.

Whitworth improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NWC, while the Loggers fell to 1-3, 1-2.

Marshall and Bosman defeated Josephine Dow and Allison Embernate 8-2 in the #1 doubles match.  Marshall then went on to beat Maddie Thiesse 6-1, 7-5 at #1 singles.  Bosman doubled up Jenna Gerdsen 6-3, 6-3 at #2 singles.

Saryn Mooney and Claire Hemming earned a win at #3 doubles for the Pirates with an 8-4 victory over Thiesse and Ada Yu. 

UPS got a point at #2 doubles when Logan Thompson and Marissa Friedman edged Megan Wingfield and Jessi Steele 8-6.

Wingfield bounced back to slip past Friedman 7-5, 6-4 at #4 singles.  Steele beat Dow 6-3, 6-4 at #5 singles, while Hemming rolled Yu 6-2, 6-3 at #6 singles.

The Loggers' second point came when Thompson topped Mooney 6-3, 6-4 at #3 singles.

Whitworth will continue its trip to Tacoma on Saturday with a match at Pacific Lutheran.
