SPOKANE, Wash. – First half goals from Brixiada Mendoza and Jadyn Baumgartner pushed Whitworth to a 2-0 win over visiting Lewis & Clark in Sunday afternoon's Northwest Conference women's soccer contest.

Hannah Miller assisted on both goals for the Pirates (3-8-1, 2-5-1 NWC). Lewis & Clark drops to 4-7-1 overall and 3-5 in NWC play.

The Pirates controlled possession from the start outshooting the Pioneers 16-6 on the match. Lauren Hepler took three shots, barely missing on two of them. Hepler took a shot a minute into the match that bounced off the left post and sent a shot just over the crossbar in the 59th minute.

Mendoza scored her second goal of the season 10 minutes in as Miller found her near the top of the six-yard box to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

Baumgartner doubled Whitworth's lead in the 22nd minute. Miller sent a long pass up the middle of the field to Baumgartner who dribbled around Pioneers goalkeeper Megan Sawyer for the 2-0 lead.

Whitworth continued to hold Lewis & Clark on defense. The Bucs allowed only three shots on goal throughout the match to secure the shut out. Julia Markmann led the Pioneers with three shots.

Isabelle Arends and Kaycie Priske split time in goal for the Pirates. Arends made one save and Priske finished with two as they combined for the clean sheet.

Whitworth continues its homestand next weekend hosting Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound to open the second half of the NWC schedule.
