Pirate Women Finish Second at NWC Fall Classic

WOODBURN, Ore. – The Whitworth women's golf team finished in second place at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Sunday at the OGA Golf Course.

Whitworth improved by 27 strokes in the second round to hold on to the second-place position.  

George Fox won the team title with all five members finishing in the top ten. Rachel Drgastin of GFU earned medalist honors shooting 72-76 – 148 (+4).

The NWC Fall Classic counts as 25% of the final standings. The final team scores were: George Fox 599, Whitworth 639, Pacific Lutheran 675, Whitman 677, Pacific 710, Puget Sound 733, Lewis & Clark 803, Linfield 856, Willamette 907.

Cheyenne Marchand and Allie Slingsby each shot an even-par 72 in the second round to lead the Pirates. Marchand finished fourth (80-72 – 152), while Slingsby (81-72 – 153) tied for fifth.

Maggie Peters (83-79 – 162) tied for ninth to give the Bucs three top ten finishers. Ali Brandt (93-83 – 176) finished in a four-way tie for 18th and Abby Douglas (89-100 – 189) finished in 31st.

The Pirates finish off the fall schedule at the Whitman Invitational in Walla Walla on Oct. 19-20.
