Whitworth Women Tied For Third on Day 1

WALLA WALLA Wash. – Whitworth University is tied for third place after the first round of the Northwest Conference women's golf tournament on Saturday at Wine Valley Golf Course.

The Pirates are tied with Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran (347 each).  Both trail George Fox (316) and host Whitman (321).  Gusty wind conditions pushed scores higher than normal on Saturday.

Whitworth's Maggie Peters and Allie Slingsby are both tied for 13th place tie with a score of 85. Cheyenne Marchand (87) stands in 17th place, shooting 87. Jaymie Pentony (90) is tied for 21st, while Ali Brandt (99) is tied for 31st.

George Fox's Janelle Decker is the leader at the tournament's halfway point with a score of 75, one stroke ahead of Whitman's Shiyang Fan.

The team scores are: George Fox University 316, Whitman 321, Lewis & Clark 347, Whitworth 347, Pacific Lutheran 347, Pacific University 378, Puget Sound 382.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 am.
