SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth women's golf team will tee off on the 2018-19 season this weekend when the Pirates compete at the PLU Fall Invitational at Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Tacoma.

Saturday's tee time is noon, while Sunday's start is scheduled for 8:00 am.

The collegiate golf schedule is comprised of a fall season and a spring season.  The fall schedule will peak at the 2018 Northwest Conference Fall Classic in McMinnville, Oregon on October 13-14.  That tournament will count toward a third of the final conference standings.

The Pirates return five letterwinners from last year, when the Bucs took third place at both the NWC Spring Classic and the NWC Tournament to finish third in the final league standings.

Maggie Peters claimed second team All-NWC recognition for the second year in a row, while Jaymie Pentony earned second team honors for the first time in her career.

There are no seniors on the seven-member rosters.  Ali Brandt and Cheyenne Marchand join Peters and Pentony as the most veteran players on the squad.  They are all juniors.  Sophomore Allie Slingsby returns after claiming a letter last season.  Newcomers Abby Douglas and Michaela Tee will get a chance to contribute as well.

Head coach David Fern is in his first season leading the Pirates.

The Pirates finished third in the 2018 NWC Preseason Coaches Poll with 50 points, behind only nationally-ranked George Fox and Whitman.

After this weekend, Whitworth will return to the west side for the Puget Sound Invitational on September 29-30.  October will be busy with the Lilac Collegiate in Liberty Lake on October 8-9 and the NWC Fall Classic.  The fall schedule concludes with the Whitman Invitational in Walla Walla on October 20-21.
