Golf Hosts NWC Spring Classic At Canyon Lakes

KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Whitworth men's and women's golf teams host the Northwest Conference Spring Classic this weekend at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick, Wash.

The teams will play 36 holes over the course of two days. Saturday will have a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m., followed by an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.

The Men: Whitworth looks to make a push in the spring. The Pirates were in third place at the West Cup, a tournament that featured multiple top 10 teams, and had the highest team place out of the Northwest Conference. Sophomore Oliver Rudnicki ranks 70th in Division III.

Willamette earned the NWC Fall Classic championship honors. Pacific Lutheran finished second, and Puget Sound finished third. Whitworth finished fourth, followed by Linfield in fifth. Lewis & Clark and Pacific (Ore.) finished sixth and seventh. Whitman and George Fox rounded out the eighth and ninth spots, respectively.

The Pirates won last year's NWC Spring Classic, after weather forced a cancellation of the second round and make the first round finishes the final standings. Jesse Salzwedel finished second in the player standings, after a first round score of 72.

The Women: Whitworth faces tough competition on the women's side, as both George Fox and Whitman are ranked in the top 15 nationally. The Bruins enter the Spring Classic ranked 12th in Division III, while the Missionaries are ranked 14th. George Fox's Sydney Maluenda is ranked fourth among Division III golfers, and Whitman's Catelyn Webber is ranked 10th.

Whitman won the NWC Fall Classic and leads the NWC. George Fox finished second, and Willamette took third. Whitworth finished fourth, followed by Lewis & Clark at fifth. Pacific Lutheran and Linfield finished sixth and seventh, respectively, while Pacific (Ore.) and Puget Sound rounded out the eighth and ninth spots.

Next Up: Whitworth will compete at the Whitman Invitational April 18-19. Friday's round will be at Veterans Memorial, while Sunday's round will be at Wine Valley.
