MOSCOW, Idaho – The Whitworth track and field team opened the indoor season competing at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open hosted by the University of Idaho on Friday and Saturday.
The women had six top-ten performances, with two Pirates placing among the top-five in their events.
Kameha Medallada placed sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.01. The senior finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.45.
Amelia Hewson qualified for the finals and finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.30.
Madison Peffers jumped 5' ¼" in the high jump to tie for seventh with three other participants. Peffers also placed ninth in the pentathlon.
Kayla Rambo took seventh in the shot put with a 40' ½" toss.
The men had four top-ten finishers with two finishing among the top-five.
Nick McGill highlighted the men's performers, placing third in the heptathlon. Joseph Tingstad finished ninth.
Jesus Gonzalez placed seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.09, beating his previous indoor personal-best by 0.89.
Samson Irish-Lodge earned fifth place in the triple jump with a 44' 9" leap.
Up next, the Pirates will compete in the Idaho Vandal Invite on Thursday, Jan. 23.
