GENEVA, Ohio – Whitworth University's Marissa Mount finished third in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday during the final day of competition at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Mount's performances gives the Pirates five All-American finishes out of five event entries at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
Mount finished with a time of 10:46.55, nearly three seconds faster than her time from the preliminary heats on Thursday. Mount improved by one place from her finish in 2018. Defending champion Annie Rodenfels of Centre College won the race in 10:22.32.
Whitworth's women scored 18 points to finish in a tie for 12th place, the second-highest team finish for the Pirate women. Loras College (Iowa) won the title with 53 points.
Nick McGill scored eight points all by himself to put Whitworth's men's team in a tie for 34th place. Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the men's championship by 30 points with a total of 68.
Each of the three Pirate women scored in her event, and McGill scored twice, meaning the Bucs had five All-America performances in five total entries. In addition to Mount's third place on Saturday, Kayla Rambo finished second in the discus on Friday and Izzy Clark was fifth in the heptathlon. McGill took fourth in the javelin and sixth in the decathlon.
