SPOKANE, Wash. – Several Whitworth Pirates turned in new career-best marks en route to multiple dual meet victories at Saturday's Buc Scoring Invite.
The Pirate men defeated Gonzaga, Lewis-Clark State, and Spokane Community College in dual meet scoring while the Whitworth women defeated Gonzaga and Spokane CC. Eastern Washington beat both the Pirate men and women.
Kayla Rambo opened the day for the Pirate women by tossing a 142-foot 6-inch discus throw, the best in the nation by 8 inches. The mark also topped several Division I throwers at the meet to earn first place.
Izzy Clark picked up another of the Pirates' victories on the day, winning the 100-meter hurdles by .08 seconds with a 15.13 mark. Clark also had a career-best shot put of 40-feet 0.75-inches, which placed fourth behind three throwers from Eastern Washington.
Olivia Lytle added the final win of the day for the Whitworth women. The senior leaped 33-feet 7 ½-inches in the triple jump, a career-high mark that outpaced her closes competitor by over a foot.
The Pirate men also picked up their only victory in the 4x100-meter relay. Xavier Betancourt and Jalen Robinson-McClure outpaced the final two legs from Lewis-Clark State to give the Bucs a win in 43.49 seconds.
Betancourt followed up his performance in the 4x100 by placing second with a 57.13-second time in the 400-meter hurdles. The mark is a new personal record.
Rhett Streeter added another runner-up finish with a new personal record of 11.03 seconds in the 100-meter dash. He also earned third in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.67 seconds.
Matt Naccarato picked up a new career-high with a 129-foot 2-inch discus throw. The performance earned fourth place in the event.
Ibrahim Diop added another career-best time in the 800-meter run. The freshman outpaced his previous best by more than 4 seconds with a 2:01.54 mark and earned fourth place.
The Pirates return to action on Thursday, March 21 for the first day of the Sam Adams / Combined Event Invite.
