SPOKANE, Wash. - Seniors Drew Brigham of Whitworth men's tennis and Dakota Kliamovich of Whitworth track and field have each been named a NWC Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 11 to April 17.
Brigham was honored as the NWC Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week while Kliamovich was named the NWC Women's Field Student-Athlete of the Week. Brigham earned the weekly honor for the second time this season, while Kliamovich became the third different Whitworth recipient of the NWC Women's Field Student-Athlete of the Week award during the current season.
Brigham (Eagle, Idaho / Eagle HS) went 4-0 at #1 singles and #1 doubles as Whitworth defeated Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound by 9-0 scores to clinch the final NWC Tournament spot. In singles, he beat James Okubo of PLU 6-1, 6-0 and Chet Selis of UPS 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, he teamed with Drew Adams to defeat Okubo and Alberto Leal of PLU 8-5 and Nicholas Lupan and Riley Inn of UPS 8-0.
Kliamovich (Liberty Lake, Wash. / Cornell Univ.) won the hammer throw at the 5th Annual Whitworth Twilight Meet with a season-best mark of 162' 2" (49.42m). She placed first out of 11 competitors in the event. Her performance is the best in the NWC this year and ranks 24th nationally.
Whitworth track and field travels to the NWC Championships on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Lewis & Clark College. The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Whitworth men's tennis enters the NWC Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will travel to face top-seeded Whitman at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
