Comito Takes 7th in Shot Put at NCAA Indoor Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa – Carter Comito became an All-American with a seventh place finish in the shot put on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at Grinnell College.

Comito, the 2011 NCAA Division III champion in the discus, reached 54'-4.75" in the shot put for his first indoor All-America finish.  David Pless of Bates won the event with a meet-record mark of 60'-6.5".

Frank Lima finished 10th in the high jump after clearing 6'-8.75".  The jumpers in fifth through 10th place all cleared the same height, but the final standings were determined by number of misses per round.  Zach Mixdorf of Wis.-Stevens Point won the event with a height of 6'-11".

On Friday evening Jheri Gates finished 11th in the women's high jump.  She cleared 5'-3" in her first indoor national competition.  Elizabeth Evans of Rose-Hulman jumped 5'-10.5" to win the event.

Comito's seventh-place finish gives Whitworth two points in the men's championship.
