Bucs Sweep Loggers in NWC Swimming Dual

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth's men won all 11 events while the Pirate women took 9 of 11 races to sweep a Northwest Conference swimming dual meet against visiting Puget Sound on Friday night at the Whitworth Aquatic Center. 

The men's score was 152-47 while the final women's tally was 139-66. 

Ryan Grady, Logan Todd and Owen Lempert each won three races against the Loggers.  Grady took the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:49.19) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.05), while Todd won the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.92) and 500-yard freestyle (4:54.54).  Lempert's individual win was the 50-yard freestyle (21.71).

Grady and Lempert were on the winning 400-yard medley relay (3:33.61) at the beginning of the meet.  Lempert also anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:17.86) at the dual's conclusion.

Finn McClone won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.05.  George Gonzales took the 100-yard freestyle in 49.21.  Both were also on the freestyle relay.  Byron Rossmiller, who won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.94, led off the medley relay.

Cameron Lyon and Jamie Siegler each won three-times for the Whitworth women.  Both were on the 400 medley relay, which opened the meet with a winning time of 4:04.45.  Lyon then won both the 200 butterfly (2:12.31) and the 500 freestyle (5:23.30).  Siegler took the 50 freestyle (24.91) and the 200 breaststroke (2:30.02).

Hannah Galbraith, who led off the medley relay, won the 200 backstroke in 2:12.91.  Eve Vetter took the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.57.  Jessica Defiesta led a 1-2-3 finish for the Pirate women in the 1000 freestyle.

Whitworth will return to the pool on Saturday afternoon against Pacific Lutheran.
