BREMERTON, Wash. – Whitworth University finished in a tie for second place with North Idaho College at the Puget Sound Invitational on Sunday at Gold Mountain Golf Club.
The Pirates trailed the Cardinals by six strokes after Saturday, but shot 292 on Sunday to move into a tie. Both NIC and Whitworth trailed Pacific Lutheran in the final standings. The Lutes led wire-to-wire. The final team scores were: PLU 578, Whitworth and NIC 595, Puget Sound 605, Linfield 613, Pacific (Ore.) 648, Lewis & Clark 661.
Derrick Phelps, who took medalist honors last week and PLU, finished in a tie for fourth place this week with a score of 76-70 – 146 (+2). PLU's Jordan Brajcich and Austin Darnell tied for first place after shooting 140 (-4).
Reilly Hegarty (75-73 – 148) tied for seventh place with two other players. Triston Hartfeil (72-79 – 151) took 13th place, while Sam Stiles (78-74 – 152) tied for 14th place. Keegan Loo (80-74 – 154) finished in a four-way tie for 19th.
Whitworth will be back in action on October 8th and 9th at the Lilac Collegiate in Liberty Lake, Washington.
