Pirate Men Chase NWC Golf Crown

SPOKANE, Wash. – One of the most wide-open races for the Northwest Conference men's golf championship in league history concludes this weekend at the 2018 NWC Tournament hosted by Puget Sound at Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood, Washington.

No less than four schools control their own destiny toward claiming the NWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III championships and Whitworth is one of those schools.

Pacific Lutheran heads into the weekend in first place in the NWC standings with 14 points, based on a win at the NWC Spring Classic and a third place finish a at the NWC Fall Classic.  George Fox is in second place with 13 points, while Whitworth and Willamette are tied with 12 points apiece.  Because the NWC tournament counts as 50% of the final point total, any one of the four could claim the 2018 NWC crown with a team victory this weekend.

Tee times begin at 8:00 am each day.

A win this weekend would be the first of the 2017-18 schedule for the Pirates.  Whitworth was runner-up at the Puget Sound Invitational last September 23-24 and the Bucs won a rain-shortened Whitman Invitational at the end of October.

Whitworth is in a position to win thanks to a second place finish at the NWC Spring Classic.  Keegan Loo led the way at that tournament by earning medalist honors.  It was the Pirates' second medal of the year and the first over a two-day event.  Sam Stiles tied for the best final score at the 2017 NWC Tournament, thanks to a round of 68 on Sunday.
