Men's Golf Looks To Defend NWC Title

The Whitworth men's golf team looks to defend its Northwest Conference Championship title when the Pirates travel to Woodburn, Ore. for the NWC Championships, hosted by George Fox University at OGA Golf Course.

The men have a 1:00 p.m. tee time on Saturday, and a 9:00 a.m. tee time on Sunday.

Pirate Men in the NWC: Whitworth seeks its second consecutive NWC championship and its third in the last five years.

The Pirates won all three conference meets last season, sweeping the Fall Classic, Spring Classic and Conference tournament. Senior Jesse Salzwedel, who has been a First Team All-NWC selection the past three years, shoots for his fourth honor this weekend. Sophomore Oliver Rudnicki was named First Team All-NWC last season, while senior Stephen Plopper earned Second Team All-NWC honors.

This season, Whitworth claimed the NWC Spring Classic title at Canyon Lakes at the beginning of April. Stephen Plopper claimed medalist honors.

NWC Standings: Whitworth is currently tied with Pacific Lutheran for second in the NWC standings, two points back from Willamette.

Two and a half points back, Puget Sound sits in fourth, while Linfield holds the fifth spot in the conference.

Lewis & Clark, Pacific (Ore.), Whitman and George Fox round out the NWC team standings.
