HAYDEN, Idaho - The Whitworth University men's golf team earned two top five finishes at the Cardinal Invitation, hosted by North Idaho College at Avondale Golf Club on Sunday and Monday.
Led by sophomore Oliver Rudnicki, Whitworth's first team lowered its team score by one stroke on Monday to finish with a 306-305--611 score for second place in the team standings. Whitworth's second team finished fifth overall with a 312-316--628 team score on the 6,573 yard par-72 course.
Oliver Rudnicki lowered his round on Monday by three strokes to tie for second place in the player standings with a two-day score of 75-72--147. Senior Stephen Plopper (77-76--153) and sophomores Austin Billeter (80-73--153) and Samson Martinez (73-80--153) tied for 10th in the player standings. Martinez entered Monday's round tied for first place after finishing Sunday's round with a one-over par score of 73. Sophomore Andrew Dodge (78-77--155) rounded out the top 20 finishers for Whitworth in the field of 71 golfers.
Entering the final round in fourth place, North Idaho College lowered its team score by 19 strokes to claim the top team honors out of the 11 team field. Angus Montgomery (74-72--146) used a two-over par score to earn medalist honors.
Whitworth will conclude the fall portion of its season with the Northwest Conference Fall Classic at Stone Creek Golf Course on October 26 and 27.
