ATLANTA – Jaxsen Sweum went 3-3 at the plate and Whitworth pitchers combined to throw a one-hit shutout as the Pirates concluded their trip to the Atlanta area with a 10-0 neutral-site win over Millsaps College on Sunday morning at Oglethorpe University.
Ryan Kingma improved to 2-0 this season after going six innings and allowing only one hit by the Majors. He struck out seven batters and walked one. Jake Briones and Taylor Roelofs combined to throw three innings of hitless relief.
The Pirates broke the game open by scoring nine runs over the first three innings. Sweum scored twice and drove in a run.
The big rally came in the bottom of the second when the Bucs strung together six hits and took advantage of two Millsaps errors to score six runs.
The Pirates will take another flight next weekend to play four games in California. Whitworth will play at neutral-site game against Castleton University on Friday night at Occidental College. The Bucs will play a doubleheader at Oxy on Saturday, then finish the trip with a single game at Cal Lutheran on Sunday.
