PARKLAND, Wash. – London Haley won the men's eight-kilometer race and both Whitworth cross country teams finished as runners-up on Saturday at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational.
Haley raced to a time of 24:27.8 on the old PLU golf course to win by 15 seconds over Puget Sound's Noah Larsen.
The Pirate men finished 23 points behind George Fox in the team standings. The final team scores were: GFU 44, Whitworth 67, Lewis & Clark 75, Puget Sound 79, Whitman 100, St. Martin's 157, Pacific Lutheran 221.
Hector Gomez finished seventh for the Pirates in 25:29.3 while Tristan Morris crossed ninth in 25:36.0, giving Whitworth three among the top-ten finishers. Jake Zlateff (26:25.3) was 24th and James Hardin (26:45.8) was 34th.
The Pirate women were also runners-up to George Fox. The top-ten team scores (out of 15 scoring schools) were: GFU 35, Whitworth 71, Spokane CC 93, Puget Sound 117, Central Washington 187, Northwest (Wash.) 223, Evergreen St. 228, Everett CC 239, Trinity Western 240.
Alauna Carstens of Evergreen State won the six-kilometer race in 20:50.9.
The Pirates had two runners finish in the top-ten. Lily Jones took seventh in 22:18.0, while Kezlie Thygesen finished 10th in 22:34.9.
Bethany Doggett was 15th in 22:45.3, while Ashlyn Dary was 16th in 22:45.8. Madilyn Danaraj rounded out the top-five Pirates in 31st place (23:07.0).
Whitworth will return to action on October 3rd when the Pirates host the inaugural Frank Knott Classic at The Course in Spokane Valley.
